Challenge
Identity systems are hard, slow, precise work. Grids, tokens, rules, exceptions to rules. Weeks inside a design system can shrink the world to the size of a component library, and inspiration stops arriving on its own.
Insight
Nature has been running the most consistent visual system ever made, and it never repeats itself. Light on the Ligurian sea changes every few minutes. A ridge in the Rockies is a different mountain at dawn than at noon. Something extraordinary is happening every second, quietly, whether or not anyone notices. The work is to notice.
Answer
I carry a camera almost everywhere, in rain and drizzle included. Photography is my sketchbook and my notebook: a way to collect colour, texture, rhythm, and contrast before I know what they're for. Many palettes and compositions start as a photo I took without a reason.

Outcome
A steady supply of references nobody else has, and a reset button for my eye. Coming back from the coast or the mountains, a brand problem usually looks simpler, and the solution usually looks more alive.
